Dr. Smith was born and raised in Raeford, North Carolina. Growing up she was heavily involved in volleyball and softball which led her to develop a passion for health and human performance. After 18 years in Raeford, she moved to Wingate, North Carolina. There she received both her B.S. in Biology and Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Wingate University.

While working towards her undergraduate degree, Courtney’s love of health and performance evolved further after discovering CrossFit. She began competing in the sport in 2015 and decided to start coaching in 2017. Since then she has become a CrossFit Level 2 trainer and a certified nutrition coach. Dr. Smith continues to be an active participant in the sport and enjoys coaching classes, personal training & competing.

Courtney received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2020. While pursuing her doctorate she completed multiple clinical rotations which gave her the opportunity to work with collegiate athletes, NFL players, Olympic athletes, elite marathon runners, high level CrossFitters, weightlifters, powerlifters and everyone in between. Through these clinical rotations her interest in sports rehabilitation continued to blossom.

After obtaining her physical therapy license she has worked in the outpatient orthopeadic setting treating a variety of patient populations. She employs multiple manual therapy techniques such as dry needling, spinal manipulation, body tempering, cupping while pairing these things with targeted exercise to help her patients reduce pain and improve overall body function. Dr. Smith’s post-graduate continuing education has included certifications in Spinal Manipulation and Dry Needling through the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy’s Dry Needling and Spinal Manipulation Institutes as well as additional courses through the Institute of Clinical Excellence and Integrative Dry Needling.

Dr. Smith is currently a Fellow-in-Training for AAMT’s Fellowship in Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy (FAAOMPT) which will place her in the top 1% of orthopaedic physical therapists worldwide.
